Dragon Boat Festival (Duanwu) in Singapore

What it marks

The Dragon Boat Festival (Duanwu) commemorates the poet Qu Yuan, on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. Families eat rice dumplings (bak chang / zongzi) and watch dragon boat races. It is not a public holiday in Singapore.

What's open and how it's marked

A normal working day. Expect bak chang on sale everywhere, and dragon boat races at Bedok Reservoir and Marina Bay.
